What is a social entrepreneur?

What is a social entrepreneur and what sets them apart from the rest? There is no global definition accepted by all, perhaps what differentiates them is the motivation they have and moves them to carry out their projects: change the world. They are not driven solely by professional or economic success (some even undertake non-profit), but what they seek is progress, a change in society. They are people who have an innovative idea that entails a concrete improvement and an entrepreneurial vision to develop it.

Statistics of social entrepreneurship

Solidarity companies in Spain are on the rise, even though they are still far from Europe or the US. According to the latest report by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), only 0.5% of the active adult population in Spain is involved in social entrepreneurship tasks, compared to more than 2% in the US, the United Kingdom or Finland . In this sense, social entrepreneurial initiatives in Spain have only just begun, despite the fact that they are increasing day after day. Some experts affirm that this is due to cultural causes, the conservative mentality and the historical weight of the welfare state that we have in the country, where we think that it is only the state that should take charge of the problems of society , and should not be like that. It is true that we provide our help in natural disasters and other natural emergencies, but we all need continuous work. To this is added the lack of commitment of many Spanish multinationals, which use CSR as a measure to improve their image only.

According to Ashoka data, 94% of social entrepreneurs continue working on the original idea 5 years after it was launched . After 10 years, the figure remains at 83%. After the first 5 years, 93% of entrepreneurs have managed to have their idea applied by other organizations. In five years, 53% achieve a change in public policy, this figure increases to 71% in ten years.

Profiles of entrepreneurs who change the world

  • Illusion : really motivated people with an immense desire to make their cause known in order to generate change.
  • Values : in general, it is necessary to train in order to achieve what they propose. However, what prevails are the values they have: leadership, creativity, honesty and coherence.
  • Perseverance : people willing to change, redefine and adapt their idea to conditions. They must put their project to the test and be able to spread it until it becomes a new pattern for society.
  • Cooperation : they are entrepreneurs who do not care so much about competition since the important thing for them is cooperation and creation.
  • Business management : they should not focus only on the social objective of change, but should take care of business management in the same way, know how to manage teams and contacts, as well as be able to design a detailed marketing plan and take care of the financial part despite that your objective is not to earn money, you need to have resources to have freedom of action.
  • Innovation : unlike NGOs, social entrepreneurs try to provide solutions by combining innovation, fundraising and opportunities.

Examples of companies created by social entrepreneurs

A company created by the social entrepreneur David del Ser who, after traveling four months through abandoned corners of Latin America, changed his vision of the world upon his return to Spain. He needed a turn in his professional life and, after training, he achieved his dream of creating a social business. Frogtek is on a mission to help shopkeepers in developing countries modernize their businesses.

Red Calea

Beatriz Fadón, the creator of this company, is one of the entrepreneurs who change the world. It is an agricultural chemist that moved to a municipality of 250 inhabitants of Cáceres where, together with three partners, it founded Red Calea with the mission of helping farmers from all over Spain to switch to organic production. It has already managed to convince more than 370 producers of the great business opportunity that these foods that are on the rise represent. It also encourages the grouping of farmers to sell directly on the Internet. In addition, all profits are reinvested in social projects in the sector.

Its founder, Andrés Martínez, lived for more than a year in isolated areas of Peru and on his return he spent years talking with the foundations of the large operators in Spain to improve the health service in rural areas through new technologies, without success. Hence, EHAS arose, a non-profit organization with 22 workers that has already managed to connect dozens of hospitals in Peru, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador and Bolivia with radio and the Internet.

The co-founder of, Manuel Roca, is one of those who believes that if you are lucky in life you should give something back to society: “I realized that I was only thinking about how to generate more income, how to launch new products… it has to have a balance ”. That is why he created MiaportACIÓ, through which anyone can make donations for different causes.

Pedro Tomás Delgado was concerned about the difficulties in the treatment of wastewater in his municipality. Aquaphytex is a pioneer in the production of biotechnology, installation and maintenance of vegetable plants for the sustainable treatment of wastewater. Today it has projects underway in Spain, Mali and Niger, waiting to be able to extend its services to other countries.

Accelerators and social incubators

Given the rise of these social and sustainable businesses, it is not surprising that associations and platforms are emerging that want to help give this boost that social entrepreneurs need to make their projects come true. Here are some examples:

Social Nest : from where they promote sustainable companies that seek social change, advising them on the viability of their idea, the audience they are targeting, where to get the necessary financial resources, etc.

Ashoka : the largest international network of social entrepreneurs, its founder, Bill Drayton, received the Prince of Asturias Award for Cooperation in 2011. It is a global non-profit organization committed to innovation and social entrepreneurship. It supports the work of more than 3,300 social entrepreneurs in 90 countries. In Spain it supports 29.

Entrepreneurs Fund : an initiative of the Repsol Foundation to improve the sustainability of current energy models. It is aimed at entrepreneurs with technological and innovative projects in the energy and energy efficiency sector to help them carry out solutions to the market in the shortest possible time.

Momentum Project : an ESADE and BBVA initiative that aims to promote social entrepreneurship. In this sense, it has two lines of work: the development of a program to consolidate and increase the impact of the projects and the creation of an ecosystem to support the social entrepreneur.

Ways to trade cryptocurrencies in

In this buy-sell panel or trading box, you will have some options that will allow you to perform these operations:

Steps to buy cryptocurrencies within Skrill

First of all, talking about the purchase of cryptocurrencies in the Instant mode (which is the usual one), you will be able to do the following:

  • Select the currency in which you want to buy cryptos.

  • Set the amount to spend that, for its purposes, must be a minimum of 10 EUR (You are also shown the balance you have available).

  • Select the cryptocurrency in which you are going to invest.

Steps to Sell Cryptocurrencies within Skrill

There is not much to comment on in the case of selling your cryptos within Skrill, as they are basically the same steps as in the case of the purchase:

  • You establish the type of crypto that you are going to sell (and that logically, you should own).

  • You indicate the amount of cryptocurrencies to sell directly or, if you prefer, using the percentage indicators.

  • Select the currency in which you want to receive the funds in equivalence.

  • See how much you will receive, in the same way as the previous case.

Having this ready too, you would click Next.

Following this, you must also click on Confirm in a summary similar to that of the case of the purchase, where you will see important data with which, if you agree, you can proceed to the respective confirmation.

Some other options that Skrill gives you to trade

The options you have in Skrill to trade are very practical and easy to use. And for your convenience, they are not numerous. Here’s what you can find on Skrill for when you want to trade on it:

The Portfolio section

In this section you have at hand some useful things for your negotiations, such as:

  • The Watchlist, with which you can keep abreast of the indices of your cryptos in the market.

  • Alerts and orders. With these options you are given the possibility to mark an index within the cryptocurrency, which, if the price reaches it, this will be notified to your email or mobile, as you have it configured.

  • Recent activity. It is the section where you will get your last financial movements, when it comes to purchases and sales, as is logical.

The Trade section

Within this section, you can do what you are told below:

  • Visualization of Graphs. This will allow you to take a look at the stock market movement in a not at all complex interface (you can also see the current trend that the market has in terms of sellers and buyers).

As you can see, the trading system within Skrill is not complicated. They are few and simple options, but with the same utility for people like you who do not want to get too entangled in the stock market issue, but to play it safe, but in a simple way.

This tutorial summarizes it this way so that you have a general idea when investing in cryptocurrencies within Skrill.
